hiiii im writing this on linux mint. fuck you windows
honestly? the hardest part of getting that done with was backing up stuff...
how did i get here?
okay so this started because i'm making a visual novel, and i noticed the tabs in windows explorer just like. vanished. doing file corruption fixing and all the other stuff recommended for me to do did nothing sooo i got PISSED. so pissed i had a Revelation that involved realizing that windows is probably so heavily vibe coded nowadays that the issue i was having very well couldve been unchecked ai code fucking up. and then i got even more pissed and decided "yeah no fuck this" and started The Process
The Process
the Process was simple:
- get backup drive (done, its a 8tb hard drive that's a peepy and a ouioui long)
- back up everything that matters
- install linux mint
you see the backup process was hard because i messed it up a couple times
diskgenius is good at what it does but, it tends to make things a little unstable when copying large amounts of data,
so after my pc crashed a couple times while i tried using diskgenius i went "yeah fuck that" and just manually transferred my windows user directory to the drive
and then after the transfer process everything was smooth sailing from there! mint install was easy, getting programs and stuff and logging back into everything was tedious but not too bad when i got to tinker around with stuff
linux mint is both good and bad for my productivity because i get to tinker with things.
my desktop's a little basic rn but thats because i prefer opening stuff from a menu and launcher rather than from icons haha
